Punta Cana Spring Break: The Complete Guide

Punta Cana Spring Break: The Complete Guide
Short answer: Punta Cana is the value pick of our international destinations. All-inclusive packages start at $599 per person, the drinking age is 18, and the resorts on Bávaro Beach are the largest and most self-contained we sell — pools, beach, bars, clubs, and food all inside the gates. The nightlife is resort-based rather than a downtown strip, which is either the appeal or the dealbreaker.

What Punta Cana spring break is actually like

Punta Cana is not a city. It is a 30-mile run of beach on the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic lined with large all-inclusive resorts, and the airport sits 20 minutes from most of them. There is no downtown to walk to. Your week happens on the resort — beach, pools, swim-up bars, buffets and à la carte restaurants, and an on-site club or disco — plus whatever excursions and party events you add on.

That structure is why it is the cheapest international trip we sell. Everything is on one contract, the resorts are huge, and the room rates at 800-to-1,300-room properties are lower per person than anything in Cabo or Nassau. It is also why groups with a wide spread of budgets and party appetites pick it: the people who want to be at the pool bar at noon and the people who want to sleep until two can both do that without leaving the property.

The party scene is real but resort-centric. Coco Bongo Punta Cana is the one big off-resort club (a night there is bundled into some of our packages), and there are boat parties along Bávaro. If you want a strip of ten clubs you can walk between, that is Cancún.

Where you stay: our 3 Punta Cana resorts

ResortFrom / personWhat it is
Occidental Caribe$599798-room beachfront all-inclusive on Bávaro Beach, 20 minutes from PUJ. Spring breakers stay in a dedicated building near the pool, beach bar, and 24-hour snack bar. Rated 4.4/5 by our travelers.
Occidental Punta Cana$799Larger sister property on the same stretch of Bávaro Beach; more restaurants, bigger pool complex, rooms sleep up to 4.
Riu Republica$1,049Adults-only, 1,300+ rooms, 8 pools, 9 restaurants, and a 24-hour open bar with premium liquor. The most party-forward property in Punta Cana.

Prices are per person for the 2027 season and move with dates, room type, and group size. The standard Punta Cana package is 6 nights with up to 4 people per room.

Pick Occidental Caribe if you want the lowest price and everything within a five-minute walk. Pick Riu Republica if the party is the priority and you are 18+.

Nightlife and days out

On resort: pool parties, beach bars, and the property disco most nights. Off resort: Coco Bongo Punta Cana (the show-club format, not a dance floor), boat and catamaran parties off Bávaro, and the Go Blue booze cruise that comes with the package at most hotels.

Day trips worth the money: Saona Island (catamaran, sandbar, lunch on the beach), Hoyo Azul cenote at Scape Park, and the buggy or ATV runs through the countryside. Most groups do one boat day and leave the rest to the resort.

Weather in March

March is dry season. Daytime highs run around 84°F, nights in the low 70s, and the Caribbean water is close to 80°F — the warmest of any of our destinations in March. Afternoon showers happen but rarely last. (Approximate averages; check a forecast the week before you fly.)

Our June cost guide puts most students' all-in Punta Cana spend, flights included, at roughly $1,050–$2,000 per person.

Getting there

Fly into Punta Cana International (PUJ). Nonstops run from New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Atlanta, Miami, and Fort Lauderdale, among others — 2 hours from South Florida, about 4 from the Northeast. Midwest and West Coast schools usually connect once through Miami, Charlotte, or Atlanta.

The transfer to your resort is included and takes about 20 minutes.

You need a passport book valid at least six months past your travel dates. The Dominican Republic's tourist entry fee is built into most U.S. airline tickets, and the online e-ticket form is free — your Go Blue agent will walk your group through it before departure.

How booking works

A $100 deposit per person holds your spot; the balance is paid in interest-free monthly installments. Early-bird pricing runs about $200 per person under regular rates and ends as the March peak weeks fill. Punta Cana has the most rooms of any destination we sell, so it holds early-bird pricing later than Cabo — but the Occidental Caribe spring-breaker building goes first.

Punta Cana spring break FAQs

How much is a Punta Cana spring break package?

From $599 per person at Occidental Caribe, including the all-inclusive resort, round-trip airport transfers, taxes, and a 6-night stay with up to 4 per room. Flights and party packages are extra.

Is Punta Cana or Cancún better for spring break?

Cancún has the bigger club scene and more off-resort nightlife. Punta Cana is cheaper, the resorts are bigger, and the party stays mostly on property. Both have an 18 drinking age.

Can you drink at 18 in Punta Cana?

Yes. The Dominican Republic's drinking age is 18, and every resort we book there is all-inclusive with drinks included.

Is Punta Cana safe for spring break?

The resort zone is gated and self-contained, transfers are private, and a Go Blue host is on property all week. The standard advice applies: stay with your group, use the resort's transport off property, and drink water in the sun.

Do you need a passport for Punta Cana?

Yes, a passport book valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates.

When should I book Punta Cana for March 2027?

By the end of October for early-bird pricing and first choice of resort. The cheapest hotel, Occidental Caribe, fills first.
